A wonderful story! I found this site searching for info on A. Seidlitz & Son Saddlery on Ashland Ave in Chicago. A facebook group from my elementary school prompted me to do a google streetview walk of the neighborhood, and I was really surprised to find the dilapidated Seidlitz sign still up over the now abandoned shop. When I was in grade school, this was my paper route. And Mr Seidlitz got the German Language newspaper twice a week from our newspaper supplier. I just loved going into his shop. The smell of leather! I was a big cowboy fan at this age and had my eye on a pair of the most beautiful black boots with turquoise blue diamond designs along the side.. They were as far out of my reach as the Hope diamond! But I gave them a long hard look anyway each time I dropped off the German paper. It does my heart good to see someone is carrying on this tradition! Loading... Reply
