Instructor: Trevor Alexander
Course Length: 10 minutes | Lessons: 4
Skill Level: Beginner to Intermediate

Achieving clean, consistent antiquing doesn’t have to feel like guesswork.
In this short, focused workshop, Trevor Alexander opens his bench and walks you through the exact antiquing process he relies on day in and day out — the same method he refined over years of trial, error, and saddle-making experience.

You’ll learn how to prepare your leather, and how to apply Trevor’s signature two-coat resist method.

From there, Trevor demonstrates how to apply antique paste, work it into the tooling, clean it without removing too much color, and buff it to a smooth, even finish. You’ll see how he handles both tooled and untooled sections, how he keeps color consistent across the entire project, and how he avoids the streaks, blotches, and dried-paste marks that frustrate so many leathercrafters.

He also covers stitching considerations — whether you want bright, clean stitches or a more aged, antique look — and ends with his go-to non-cutting topcoat: multiple light coats of Leather Sheen for a durable, polished finish.

This is a quick, practical course designed to be a repeatable reference you can return to every time you antique a project.
If you want crisp contrast, smooth color, and a professional finish, Trevor’s process will get you there.

Meet Your Instructor:

Trevor alexander has been devoted to leather work since he bought his first side of leather at the age of 16. His earlier projects were mainly headstalls, spur straps, and gun holsters. In 2015 he started his career as a saddle maker for Burns saddlery. Since then he has worked on hundreds of saddles and has trained many people in the art of leather. He strives for excellence with every saddle he makes and still has the same passion for leather work as he did when he was 16. Trevor spends any spare time he has with his family and friends or riding motorcycles.
