Have you ever seen a wallet, belt, or even a saddle with a design carved into it and wanted to know how it is done? Western floral carving is not a “dying art.” There are more people doing leatherwork now than ever and you can be one of them!
In this class students will learn
In this class students will learn how to carve and tool a traditional western floral pattern into a blank piece of leather. Students will be instructed on how to prepare the leather for tooling, how to transfer the design onto the leather, how to properly use each of the basic 7 tools (and maybe a few others) to bring the design to life. Throughout these steps students will also learn some the traditional elements that make up a western floral carving.
Students are asked to bring:
Stamping stone
Mallet or maul
Stylus
Swivel knife,
Strop
Also least one of each of the following stamping tools (camouflage, pear shader, beveler, veiner, seeder, and background tool such as an A104) these tools are what come in every beginner set of tools.
Additionally, students may want to bring a mule's foot, shell tool and a matting style background tool. Optionally a headlamp can be useful in classrooms where lighting may not be ideal.
