The modeling spoon is the most versatile tool that a leather carver can own. Very intricate and detailed carvings can be done with a swivel knife and modeling spoon alone. In this class, Erik will give detailed and hands on instruction on various tips and techniques to put you on the path of mastering the modeling spoon.
In this class students will learn
Students will learn the versatility using a modeling spoon can bring to leather carving not only on its own, but when paired with a few basic tools.
Students are asked to bring:
Students should have a stamping stone, maul or mallet, stylus, swivel knife, strop, modeling spoon, standard bevelers of small and medium size, matting style background tools of their favorite texture.
An optional headlamp may be useful in classroom where lighting is not ideal.
Brief Instructor Bio
Erik is an award winning leather worker and began leatherworking in 2014 as a hobby, quickly developing a deep passion for the craft. What started as a personal passion grew into a desire to share his knowledge with others. Today, he teaches hands-on classes around the country. These classes are focused on traditional techniques and practical skills. He enjoys helping students of all skill levels discover the joy of working with leather and seeing them leave with the knowledge, pride, and satisfaction of something they made themselves.
