For most leather carvers, regardless of skill level, the swivel knife can be one of the hardest tools to get the hang of. Even though it is the most important tool in leather carving, it can be hard to control! In this class, Erik will provide detailed and hands on instruction to help take control and tame your swivel knife!
In this class students will learn
Students will learn how to get the most out of their swivel knife. Along with basic, care and maintenance, students will learn how to properly hold and cut with the knife. They will also learn to control the movement and depth of the cuts to create accurate, smooth, and flowing cuts that are the foundation for every leather carving.
Students are asked to bring:
Stylus
Swivel knife
Strop.
An optional headlamp can be useful in classrooms where lighting is not ideal.
Brief Instructor Bio
Erik is an award winning leather worker and began leatherworking in 2014 as a hobby, quickly developing a deep passion for the craft. What started as a personal passion grew into a desire to share his knowledge with others. Today, he teaches hands-on classes around the country. These classes are focused on traditional techniques and practical skills. He enjoys helping students of all skill levels discover the joy of working with leather and seeing them leave with the knowledge, pride, and satisfaction of something they made themselves.
