Tooling Intricate Celtic Knots With Brandon Corral

In this full-day class, students will tool a Celtic knot design from start to finish while learning the fundamentals of creating depth in what is, at its core, a flat and interwoven pattern. Brandon “Swift” Corral will guide students through layout, carving, and tooling techniques that bring structure, flow, and visual separation to complex knotwork. While the design is fully tooled in class, the primary focus is on the finishing process: advanced detailing techniques that elevate the work after the base tooling is complete. Students will learn how to sharpen edges, control shadow and lift, refine intersections, and enhance readability without disrupting the continuous flow of the knot. By the end of the class, students will complete a fully tooled Celtic knot panel with refined dimensional detail and a clearer understanding of how to push depth and polish in intricate interlaced designs. Students will tool an 8x8 inch Celtic knot panel while learning how to build depth in flat interwoven designs and refine completed tooling through advanced detailing techniques that enhance clarity, dimension, and flow.

Materials Needed:

Don't de discouraged if you don't have everything. You'll see why in the class: tooling surface (granite slab), mallet, swivel knife, favorite smooth bevelers, modeling spoon, smooth pear shader and/or ballpoint modeling tools, favorite textured backgrounders.
